No Democrat filed to run against Miller in the primary. In a late social media post on election night, Parris said Buncombe County "sent a clear message" and the margin he won by shows voters are "ready for leadership that will invest in our deputies, strengthen the culture of the Sheriff’s Office, and move Buncombe County forward."

These actions are in direct violation of Article IXF, of the NCGOP State Plan of Organization which prohibits the use of one's position in the party to favor any candidate facing a party primary. Moreover, these staff lied to party members by claiming that the Rule 11 authorization was solely for purposes of creating a Joint Fundraising Agreement with the RNC that would aid the primary winner. The three leaders knew that that claim not to be valid.
