Reasons to VOTE NO ON THE OPEN SPACE BOND.
Please also refer to the yellow sheet with 3 reasons to oppose.
Ø The Bond is shameful. It’s a financial burden on those of us who worked hard, saved, and took responsibility for our future.
Ø The Open Space Bond is an in your face a Socialist scheme to redistribute our wealth.
Ø This Open Space Bond is theft of your hard earned money and mine.
Ø This Open Space Bond is a retirement plan on the backs of other property owners. No one financed my retirement. Why would taxpayers want to be burdened with this socialist scheme to redistribute our wealth that is to be managed by a government agency. It opens the door to more waste, fraud and abuse. Haven’t we had enough!
Ø This is a government takeover - just like the Commies want it - of our private property. This reduces farmers to tenants at the mercy of a ‘Committee’ that would have control of their land. We just celebrated 250 years of Freedom – founded in property rights. Government takeover is never an option.
Ø Shameful on those who wish to burden their neighbors with more property taxes.

The bribe money for farmers to continue farming is coming out of the pocket of other land owners who get nothing. Only globalist NGOs like Conserving Carolina benefit from this deal.
I hope people wake up.
Legally PROTECTED property rights with their accompanying private enterprise opportunities have been the greatest wealth generator in history. They are the well-spring of America's freedom and greatness.
Legally RESTRICTED property rights heads us back towards the European serfdom that we fought against 250 years ago.
Those pushing the bond have a history consistent and similar to the First Plank of Communist Manifesto: Abolition of property in land and the application of all rents of land to public purposes.
For example, Chuck McGrady. He's a past president of the National Sierra Club, Conserving Carolina, and Friends of DuPont Forest:
The Sierra Club exists solely for public control of land.
Conserving Carolina has befuddled land owners into giving them 50,000+ acres, with no end in sight.
Friends of DuPont Forest forced Jim Anthony to sell his land to the State.
The Trust for Public Land. The name speaks for itself.
The underlying problem is the North Carolina General Assembly’s 2026 budget bill — the 2026 Appropriations Act, Session Law 2026-41 (Senate Bill 257) — that was signed into law on July 7, 2026, includes major amendments to the state’s zoning and development statutes that significantly reshapes the legal landscape for local governments and developers alike. They set us up. We effectively have no more zoning restrictions in NC. This opens the door for this boondoggle scheme to weasel more money out of taxpayers to 'preserve land'. If we had proper zoning, farmland would be farmland and not up for grabs by corporate developers. Your taxes are going to go up substantially. $40.40 per $400,000 of property assessment. How much is your property worth? As your property values increases each year, so will this 'bill.'
This bond issue is a result of mismanagement by our commissioners of uncontrolled building and land development in Henderson County. SB257 sponsored by Republicans this year gets rid of zoning in NC. Taxpayers should not be paying for their egregious trampling of our individual rights.
