In Loving Memory of Mark Wayne Poteat

Mark Wayne Poteat, 70, of Candler, NC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 26, 2026, at 11:05pm following a tragic tractor-trailer accident in Lee County, South Carolina.

Mark was born on June 17, 1956, in Reidsville, North Carolina, to the late Linwood Thomas Poteat and Virginia Sunshine Poteat. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, faithful brother, hard worker, and cherished friend.

Mark was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Kimberly Poteat, with whom he shared a life filled with love, perseverance, faith, and countless memories for 40 years. He was a dedicated provider who worked tirelessly for his family. He was also a source of encouragement to many, always willing to listen, offer advice, pray with a friend, or simply remind someone that they could make it through another difficult day.

Mark's faith in Jesus was an important part of his life. His work often took him many miles from home, but his Bible was frequently beside him on the dashboard as he traveled. He sought the Lord in the midst of his everyday life and trusted in God's grace through both the good and difficult seasons.

In addition to his wife, Kimberly, Mark is survived by his children, Allison Poteat, Chastity Lynn, Mark Poteat Jr. and wife Brittney, Summer Messer and husband Travis, Zaiden Poteat, Brandi Crouse, Touree Poteat, and Bill Poteat; and his grandchildren, Brandon, Abbie, Makayla, Logan, Lucas, Brooklyn, Isabella, Jaxxon, Zayne, Chevy, Lilith, Caspian and Abbigail. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Phyllis Poteat, his nephews, Pete Poteat and Jay Watkins.

In addition to his parents, Linwood Thomas and Virginia Sunshine Poteat, Mark was preceded in death by his sister, Jo Ann Watkins, and his granddaughter, Tabitha Miller.

Mark will be remembered for his strong work ethic, generous heart, devotion to his family, willingness to help others, and steadfast love for Jesus and those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through his family and the many lives he touched.

The family takes comfort in knowing that Mark is now at home with Jesus and that, through their faith, this goodbye is not forever.

Funeral services will be held at Calvary Church on September 2, 2026 at 4pm, with visitation following the service. There will be no graveside services.
